New Shoes

Hey, I put my new shoes on and suddenly everything seems right... That's how the Paolo Nutini song goes and it's how i felt when I put these babies on my feet.

These are gonna be my new go to work / smart casual shoes for the forthcoming seasonal change that's bound to happen following our two and a half week mini summer season.

I was immediately drawn to these because they are kind of Alexander Wang-esque in their styling. And since I cannot afford real Alexander Wang shoes or boots with their price range in the hundreds(!), the fact that these were only £45 were a real big deciding factor.

Surprisingly enough, these shoes/booties are from Next (I know!). What I do love about Next is that they do half sizes and I always get a 3 1/2. They fit perfectly and are so comfortable.

I'm thinking of styling these with the (in)famous white Zara skort and a cool grey Adidas sweatshirt I bought in the ASOS sale a few weeks back.

A perfect seasonal crossover outfit. Pictures soon, maybe...

The one with the Zara top blooper

You'll remember the post from a few weeks ago about the dresses I was going to buy for a friends wedding in September? Well the red dress, although very lovely, just didn't suit me and I opted for the amazing yellow dress from Zara. Secretly I was pleased, this was my first choice anyway. I should just learn to trust and accept my gut feelings on these things. On everything really... but that's for another post.

As soon as I got a refund for the red dress from Topshop, I ordered the yellow Zara dress. With it being £45.99 I only needed to spend another £4 to get free delivery. So I had a browse and found a cool little summer tank vest top in the TRF 'new in' section for £9.99. Cool.

They both arrived and i was chuffed. The dress is ace (and I cannot wait to wear it) and the vest top was ace too. Until I spotted this... Can you see it?...

Nope? Okay let me point out the OBVIOUS spelling mistake. Now the design is nice and whimsy and summery and appealed to my romantic side. Look. A mermaid and a fish with little love hearts above them. Then the slogan. Just take the plunge... No, wait! 'Just take the pluge'. What?! 'the pluge'. WTF is a pluge. I googled it. I checked my dictionary and thesaurus apps and i could not find the word plug (that could be used in this context). So a bona fide spelling mistake on a top.

Question is. Is is deliberate? If so, why?! If not, then how could Zara let this mistake go by. I promptly searched their website again for the vest top. I couldn't find it! It couldn't have sold out that quickly having previously just been in their 'new in' section. It puzzled me for a day. Why would they put a deliberate mistake on a top? It's such a shame as it's a great fitting, quality vest top. Other than that blaring blooper.

My dilemma is do i get a refund or just keep it? I emailed them asking for an explanation. I explained that they appeared to have pulled it from the website. 3 days later i got a rambling reply saying thanks for pointing it out and it would now be removed from the website. Dudes! It's already gone. What I want to know is are you gonna let me keep this top from your store with a spelling mistake on it.

So far it's still in my drawer with the tags on. I really like the fit and the material is nice. I figured that I could get away with it in summer, on a beach, if i were ever to get there. Plus my romantic side is saying keep it. Look at those lil hearts. My sensible side is saying take it back for a full refund and if they had any sense they'd let you keep it for nothing!

Yellow dress? Red dress? The dress dilemma

I'm having a dress dilemma. For an evening wedding reception I'm going to to. There's no serious panic just now since it's in September. But i like to plan ahead. Plus i've seen two lovely candidates already.

First up is this mustard yellow affair from Zara.

Zara £45.99 - this one is a bit creased

It's a sort of a-line, semi-fitted shape. A right juxtaposition there eh. It has 3/4 length sleeves and shoulder pads. It looks really simple but classic at the same time. Ever since it caught my eye in last Sunday's window shopping wander around Glasgow I couldn't stop thinking about it. I hovered over the Confirm Order button on the Zara website nearly every day last week but resisted since i wasn't sure about the sizing. My previous Zara dress purchase is a strapless black frock with a puffball skirt. Really gorgeous for a wedding a few years back. It's a size XS since i'm tiny up top and have bigger bum and thighs. The puffball skirt allowed me to buy the XS. The shape of this yellow dress meant i'd need a bigger size but i didn't want one that looks too obviously baggy up top.

Sunday saw me in Glasgow again (for my weekly cinema trip) and my first stop was to Zara to try the dress on. There wasn't any size small and only two size medium and an extra large. I grabbed a medium and headed to the dressing room. As soon as I put it on I loved it. The colour suits me to a tee.

I looked down, and although the dress is by no means a mini skirt length, it is much shorter than i've worn since I was in my late teens. I may be a bit self conscious wearing it. It might show off more than i'd like. What do you think?

I do so love this dress. And it's a snip at only £45.99. I decided not to do my usual and panic buy. I knew there was still stock on the website. I'd seek advice and sleep on it.

24 hours have passed and I still think about it, but...

I've ordered another one from Topshop website (£48). It's this one... in RED.

My theory for ordering this one was that it looks slightly longer than the yellow one and the material is more fitted which means it's less likely to show off more than I'd like when I sit on a chair or am whisked around the dancefloor by a handsome plus one or fellow wedding guest. Hey! a girl can dream! I'll let you know how it looks on me when it's delivered.

Oh, and I plan on the loveliest pair of sky high nude coloured simple heels. Ideally Loboutin's. Most likely a pair from Dune or something. But you never know... I have a good few months to save up!
