Five Things on a Friday #41

Friday, 12 October 2012

ON A FRIDAY! yo.

1) The Perks of Being a Wallflower movie. Brillainto. Go see it...

2) Having a stupid cold most of the week but allowing myself time off spin classes to recover properly. Hitting one up tonight though.

3) Reconnecting with people. That's nice, innit.

4) Getting O2 to lower my monthly tarriff. It's only by £5 but every little helps. It doesn't make it any less gauling the fact that they changed the contracts and now offer unlimited calls/texts on most of them (not that I'd make use of those anyway, but...). So now i have 300 free minutes, unlimited texts and my 1GB data bolt on. No, don't even get me started on the data saga...

5) You. If you're here reading this then thanks. Leave a comment. I like reading them...

Five things on a Friday #40

Sunday, 7 October 2012

A bit late i know. I have a few draft posts in the backroom. Still trying to decide whether to publish them or not...

This will be a short and sweet post. I have other great things i want to talk about that would fit quite well into this list but they each deserve their own post. Too good.

1) Starburst. Or for those of us who remember, Opal Fruits. I've rediscovered them. My only disappointment is that there are no lemon ones on their own. They've turned them into lemon and lime green ones. Boo.

2) Homeland is back. Series 2. It took me a long while to get into series 1 but glad i stuck with it. I've been catching up on series 1 again every night on More 4. I like this way of watching a tv series. Night after night.

3) Crisp autumn days are well and truly here. I know this because the skin on my face is getting tighter after i wash it. A sure  sign the seasons are changing. I'm making sure to slather on my moisturiser every chance i get.

4) Bargains in Topshop. I went in to topshop to buy some kohl eye liners. I wanted a nice brown and then spied a purple called Juniper. The hygienic plastic wrapping was nearly ripped off but luckily it hadn't been opened fully. I searched the shelf for another of this colour but there wasn't one. On reaching the counter i asked the assistant if there was another somewhere. She went and searched the make up drawers but turns out it was only this one left. I decided to take it. When she rung it up on the till, it came up as 50p instead of the usual £4. BARGAIN. I like a good wee bargain.

5) I found this amongst the subscriptions on YouTube. It seemed appropriate from what has gone on this past week... This is racheltalbott if you want to subscribe.

Play fair kids.

Five Things on a Friday #38 and #39

Friday, 28 September 2012

Yes. Two numbers as I missed last weeks. Oops.
Here goes...

1) I still absolutely LOVE Johnny Ramirez' hair blog Boxno216.com If you are as into long flowing hair as i am then hop on over and take a look. I sooooo want him to do my hair. LOVE IT. Sorry for using so many caps. Just expressing how AWESOME it is.

2) Another awesome thing (or two) are those pesky lil nephews of mine. I adore them. Ryan is 6 and in primary 2 now and Connor turned 3 and goes to nursery in the morning. As far as we can tell he regales stories to them every single day. I had a long weekend off last weekend and went to spin class then spent a few hours with Connor. I kid you not, he has such a great sense of humour. He speaks to everyone, including his 'pal', the council recycling man. 'Here's my pal coming Angie' I was told. And yes, rightly so he went out to the front door and held a full on conversation with his pal, the recycler. They spoke about holidays and how he wouldn't see him next week. So cute. When he came back in he was all chuffed because he got to speak to his pal. Later on when Ryan came home from school we all went out to play on our bikes. He's just recently learnt to ride his bike so thinks its great and he was especially pleased when i suggested we play in the street. There was much whooping and laughing as i went fast down a wee hill. Such a delight to see them smile. Love.

3) I met up with @MissAKis on Monday. She showed her amazing pictures from the burning man festival in the desert and plenty more of the Grand Canyon. Amazing. Always good to chat to someone from Twitter who is real and no nonsense about them at all.

4) I bought a very cool tartan shirt from Zara, with added gold studded shoulders. It is very nice indeed. And yes, tartan is the new black. All the cool people wear plaid shirts.

aka THIS shirt. cool huh. Zara.com

5) I cannot wait to see Looper with Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon Levitt @HitRecordJoe (who is fast becoming one of my all time faves). I saw the trailer for the first time last week and was intrigued. And then this non-review review made me all the more eager to see it. I also want to see Killing Them Softly, with Brad Pitt finally looking his age. I think it may be a tad violent but then I'm not immune to those kinds of films. Oh and the trailer for The Candidate has made me want to see that too. Looks pretty funny. I think that's my weekend planned then.

6) I got a little surprise package in the post this week. Very thoughtful and creative, it was. 3 cd's of new (to me) music and a cool little letter to explain all. Thank you.

7) When you find a great bargain it makes everything seem good, for a few days at least. I've hankered after an Enrapture hair styling wand for a while but at £75 it's a pretty expensive piece of kit - considering my hair is already curly. And you may be wondering why I'd like one. Well, if you've clicked in the link in item 1 of this post, you'll see lovely ladies with long flowing wavy Californian curls. Mine, although awesome, does not sit like that and with this tool i can hopefully create some of those nice flowing 'just-so' wavy curls. If I can be bothered that is. I should either get up earlier of a morning or spend some time more than 5 minutes on my hair. I think some people think it's just messy but i prefer to think of it as au natural. Anyway, we'll see how i get one. I might show you some pics.

I wonder, what's been the best parts of your week? tell me your story...

Five Things on a Friday #37

Friday, 14 September 2012

Here we go. This post might actually be up before Friday is over.

1) Danny Bhoy. Contrary to popular myth, he's actually a Scottish comedian. I'd seen a poster around work (the MacRobert Arts Centre is part of my work in Stirling), and decided to go along. I'm not really into going to the Edinburgh festival around all the crowds so I thought this a good chance to go along and see what he was like. Wednesday night saw me slacking off double spin class and head back to work to the show. It was pretty good. Dear Epson is the title and it's basically about how Danny has written letters to household named companies about their products. I'm rubbish at explaining but it was pretty good and there were laughs-a-plenty. It wasn't Kevin Bridges but worth a viewing. I'd been told beforehand he was pretty good looking and whilst he was, I hated the shoes he was wearing along with skinny jeans. The shoes were a suede beige moccasin affair, yes as bad as they sound. Shoes are a deal breaker.

2) Ryan learnt to go a bike! Woohoo. Connor started nursery this week too. Woohoo. There were no tears and he loves it already. So glad. There will be photos. I just can't get them to upload to Dropbox on the laptop. Stoopid technology...

3) Talking of technology... Podcasts. I decided to download a few podcasts this week. Mostly because tv is shit after the comedown from the Olympics and Paralympics and I wanted to learn stuff. The first one was Empire movie one. The second one is The Voicemail. Here's some blurb from the related website. (I just did a shady cut n paste job so I didn't have to copy all the links myself). Go download it though. Good banter between James and SteFan talking mostly about mobile, tech, phones and other nuggets thrown in for good measure. Btw James is Whatleydude, the person who I blatantly stole this Five things on a Friday post idea from way back at the beginning of the year. I'm sure he won't mind though.

James Whatley and Stefan Constantinescu get together every week for 30 minutes to talk about the mobile industry and anything else they might fancy.

If you're using iTunes, then use this link to subscribe to the podcast.

4) Andy Murray. He finally won a major tournament, the US open no less. Congratulations. It was televised on Sky but since there's only council telly in this house i had to listen on my wireless. It was old though. I was 'watching' along on Twitter too. It was gone 3am by the time i actually closed my eyes and went to sleep on Tuesday morning. I was knackered the next day and headed to spin class that evening but it was worth it. I always knew he'd do it one day. He beat Djokovic who I believe he is pretty friendly with so that was good (so glad Federer wasn't in the final. I really cannot stand him).

5) Last week saw me at the cinema twice in one weekend. I'd been on drought and wanted to see a few films. Saturday was Lawless. Great film, see previous post. Sunday was Anna Karenina. Keira Knightley doing Keira Knightley but she's quite good in those period drama roles. You all know the story so i won't bore you with it. The way it was shot was quite good and flowing. Not sure what i mean there but I'll try to explain. The scenes were set and at the end a background would rise up like if you were at the theatre and then another scene would appear. But it just flowed and was reminiscent of a musical. Kinda. It was a good Sunday afternoon movie. Nothing special. However, Aaron Johnston was captivating and there was one scene that thankfully lasted a while, where he danced with Anna at a ball. The dance was absolutely mesmerising. The arm and hand movements were so intricate and delicate and i just wanted to stop it slow it down and learn this dance. I still do. If you see it you'll know which part i mean. It's near the start of the film. Really really good and  magical scene. Liked that a lot. Worth a watch ... on a Sunday.

6) - bonus!

I nearly forgot. There were a few good trailers i hadn't seen before. Premium Rush with Joseph Gordon Levitt on a bike. For that alone i will see this. But but but... The Perks of Being a Wallflower. OMG. The actual trailer made me well up. It stars Emma Watson (Hermione) and a few other people and from the few minutes i saw I felt a strange bond with the main male lead, although he's meant to be about 15! So much moved was i that i bought and downloaded the book from iTunes. Can't wait to get reading. I've since heard a few reports from advance screenings and it seems like the film is great. Can't wait till it's out.

Over and out.

Five things on a Friday #36

Saturday, 8 September 2012

Apologies. I've fallen off the wagon in terms of keeping up the Friday Five blogs posts, actually that goes for blogging as a whole. Sometimes its good to take your foot off the gas and replenish ideas. So i'm skipping a few Friday Five posts. The last one was #30 and this is #36.

1) The Paralympics. How amazing have they been? Pretty darn amazing. I'm going to really really miss not turning on the tv and seeing inspirational people win medals. Withdrawal symptoms already but the 400m final is in a few short hours and i really want Oscar Pistorious to win it. He's an icon and a really good athlete. Some of the athletes taking part are so good they make you forget that you're watching people with some sort of disability. I mean, is it even right to use that word anymore. Cycling is my thing, as you know, and Jon-Allan Butterworth another one i've been watching. The whole team again have proved they have a great set up and Super Sarah Storrey - wow! Amazing. And let's not forget David Weir. One of the most unassuming superstars out there. A refreshing change. He is a superstar and should be recognised as such in the future.

2) Lawless. the movie. I've just been to see Lawless at the cinema. I'd been looking forward to this one for a while. Tom Hardy is in it afterall. It is a really good movie. Hardy plays the oldest of 3 brothers, Forrest Bondurant. In my opinion this character is a much stronger one than his Bain in TDKR. For one, you can see his face and two, he grunts and drawls his way through the film with great presence and a pretty genuine sounding southern drawl. Typical Hardy acting. I'm biased, i like his films but here he really does menacing without the armour of a Bain style uniform. Here he has a hat and a cardigan. No joke. See it. It's worth it.

3) I don't often buy myself perfume. If so it's rare. I usually get enough for Christmas to last me through the year. But... last week i was given a sniff of a new Lancome perfume and i thought i didn't like it at first but the little card with the scent lay on my drawers and the it really grew on me. So much so that i went and bought myself a bottle on Wednesday. It's La Vie Et Belle by Lancome. Julia Roberts appears to be the face of it. If it's good enough for her, it's good enough for me. Anyhow, it's hard to describe the scent but it sticks around all day and i can't get enough of it. It's a little different to my usual Eternity by Calvin Klein or Miracle by Lancome. By the way, that was a subtle hint, you know, cos Christmas lists should be written soon *winky eye face*

4) For two weeks in a row I've completed 5 spinning bike classes per week. It's been tough, but at the same time a great feeling once they're done. Monday and Tuesday are with Claire. She's a little jumping bean of a girl. Small but perfectly toned and a really nice character. Wednesday is one with Julie and one with Tim. Julie is a brilliant motivator and a laugh. Gets you going with a smile. Tim's class is RPM. Tough as but great! He's a machine that pushes you and the last track he's been using is a dance remix of Haddaway's what is love. A laugh every time it comes on. He really makes you push yourself. Friday night's class is with Ross. A quiet guy but deadly. This is more of an interval hill climb class with only one or two breaks in the hour. Last night in particular i totally went for it. Gears higher than ever and really pushing through. Each class is different in style as well as music choice. All good though. So glad I found spinning class. But...new trainers have been purchased and a run has been completed. I'm gonna get into that more in the future too. As well as Saturday morning Shockfit kettle bells... Start that next week. Woohooo!!

5) Connor is 3 tomorrow. I cannot believe how time has flown. He's an amazing little boy. He absolutely loves his big brother to death (although they can have a fight too!). He's got a great sense of humour and the cutest little squinty eye face he makes. You have to see it. Tomorrow is his. Happy Birthday Connor! Love you.

Five things #29 and #30

Saturday, 28 July 2012

okay okay okay, i missed last weeks Five Things on a Friday post. Gah!
I'll add en extra few to this one, don't worry. Maybe.

1) THE OLYMPICS!!! I cannot help but be swallowed up by the while fever that has taken over form the moaning. Wow, the country has embraced it, for the most part i think. Day one and no medals for Team GB yet, but the games are still young.

2) THE OLYMPIC OPENING CEREMONY. I was soooooo excited and looking forward to this event all week. And what an event it was! Apparently 27 million people watched on TV in the UK and what a spectacular spectacular it was, from Danny Boyle no less. I loved the set up, a rolling green land, prospering with crops, animals, kids doing a maypole, a cricket match, a concert on a tor, a giant tree and even rain clouds. The moment it all started and then the anthems from the various regions that make up GB, that was the first teary moment. We then moved onto 'pandemonium' and fantastical extravaganza of steel workers, strikers, suffragettes, industrialists and high above the arena were 4 orange lit rings, the fifth being made right there in the make shift foundry. It rose and they all joined together over the towering reeking chimney stacks. It was a wonderfully dark cityscape. We then moved on to a tribute to the NHS, fairytales, JK Rowling reading Peter Pan, Mr Bean! But one of the highlights has to have been the moment James Bond turned up at the palace, yes, Buckingham Palace and brought the Queen to the ceremony on a helicopter and a sky dive! Well it wasn't her sky diving but fair play to the Queen for her sense of humour and rolling with the sketch. Later the athletes came in and the loudest cheer was obviously for Team GB, last ones to appear being hosts and all. So blooming exciting. Sir Chris Hoy held the lag aloft with such pride. It really was inspiring the whole shabang. Let's gloss over McCartney being rolled out again shall we. Throughout it all was a soundtrack of British music and film from the decades. Awesome. It really was a triumph! Bravo, bravo.

3) The Dark Knight Rises. So i relayed my thoughts in another post - without any spoilers i add. but I had to include it here, because it was a good thing of my five...or six...or seven.

4) the family returned from their holiday safe and sound. It was nice having the house to myself for a whole 12 days but seriously I was beginning to miss them and get a bit lonely in the house by myself. I don't think i could live entirely on my own. No way.

5) i had the offer of a sounding board via emails with someone this week. Someone so generous with their time and a person whose friendship is precious. Anyway, it's amazing what clarity it can bring to talk things over, say it out loud (or in print) and see it for what it is. I saw the light a wee bit and it has helped me clear my thoughts about something that's probably hung around for  a few months longer than it should have. Thank you, friend.

6) okay, can't think of any more. i'll end.

Five Things #28

Saturday, 14 July 2012

This is Five Things and this is Friday (well it was Friday when I started this post. It's now Saturday). Number 28.

1) featurette of the Dark Knight Rises appeared this week. Pretty good. But does it give away too much? Not sure. I for one cannot wait for this movie to happen. Excitement is building.

2) An Olympian sent me a DM last week. I casually wished him well in his amazing feat of being selected in the team. He DM'd me. Like you do. Wowsers. Amazing response too. It made me grin from ear to ear and all made possible by the power of Twitter. I mean, come on, we would never ever have the kind of access to this without such platforms. I Love Twitter.

3) Bradley Wiggins takes the yellow jersey in the Tour de France. Another awesome tale. I love cycling and this is fantastic for Britain. Oh and this every day, David Miller won a fab stage too. Well done the Brits, we can do this!

4) I lost a few pounds and completed 4 spin classes this week after a week's hiatus. It's amazing how quickly you can lose those extra few rpm's from the bike. I've booked all my classes for next week with a view to hitting it big time when i'm on holiday. Can't wait.

5) The discovery... a 21 year old student spends three days redesigning and rebranding Microsoft. This is frankly AWESOME. I love what he's done. They could use his skills. Check it out over at Minimally Minimal Also, check out his other work. Really good.

6) BONUS: I am now on holiday from work. Woohoo! So happy. I'm not gong away on a holiday as such but rest assured i'll still be enjoying my time off. Movies, spin class, gym, cake baking, dance move learning, researching and planning. Yay!

Happy weekend folks,
Angela x

Five Things #27

Friday, 6 July 2012

I think i might get back on track with this Five Things posting. Yay!

1) MacBook Pro. I'm so glad i took the plunge and upgraded to this machine. A pleasure to use. So easy and i'm up and running within a few minutes of turning on. Whereas with the Dell, now 5 years old, it takes at least 30 minutes for it to run through it's start up procedure before I can start to even load up Chrome for net surfing. And don't even think about editing a photo, or playing iTunes, you'll wait a further 20 minutes for that. So, yes, glad i got this.

2) Andy Murray is into another semi final of Wimbledon. The match is tomorrow. I think we should all get behind him and support him. I know people say he appears dour and moody, but i think (i've heard) that once you scratch the surface there's actually a really witty guy there. Somewhere. C'mon Andy!

3) our new bathroom. I know, this is a weird one but I actually love our new bathroom. it's all white and bright and has a gorgeous charcoal grey tiled floor. The bath is big yet tight but long enough to have a good stretch out in. Not that i'm a bath person. I prefer a shower but the new surroundings may prompt me to bathe more.

4) red trousers. My new red trousers. Red chinos to be exact. £10 in the Topshop summer sale. Bargain, and just that right shade of red. My current red affairs from Zara are more of a pink toned red but these...these are the stuff of tomato redness and I look forward to wearing them to brighten up these long grey summer days we've been having lately.

5) Spiderman. The movie. Out this week and i'm going to see it. Can't wait. Also my summer holiday countdown is on. One week today will be my last day at work for two weeks. Yay! and with that means only a week or so until The Dark Knight Rises hits the big screens. I'm both excited but sad that this will be the last Nolan Batman film. But I look forward to seeing Tom Hardy's Bane. Argh!

Five Things 23-26

Saturday, 30 June 2012

I've been really rubbish at my weekly Five Things related posts. I think I explained a few weeks ago that things weren't going so great (in terms of at work and stuff) and i didn't really go out or do anything for a few weeks there. Well I did have a lovely night out one weekend but i don't want to tell you all about that because sometimes there has to be a bit of privacy. Doesn't there?...

So now that i'm back in the blogging mood i thought i'd catch up on the Five Things post as that was neglected. I'll try and incorporate some good things from the past few weeks into this list. Hence the reason it may be longer than five.

1) Euro 2012. I love sports. I love football. I love F1. I love cycling. I love tennis. Well maybe not love tennis but you get the drift, i do love a bit of sport. And that's the reason the past month has been good. It's been a family affair with me and the parents settling down of an evening to watch one or two matches. We were sure Germany would win or at least be in the final but it's not to be. The final is tomorrow night and it's Spain V Italy. I've enjoyed watching both teams play and i think maybe, use maybe Italy may edge it.

2) I know I go on about them a lot but i just absolutely adore my two nephews, Ryan and Connor. They are a few of the only people that can make me smile at the very thought of them and when I'm in their company there's always a few laughs and jokes.

3) Linda. Started off as a colleague but now a brilliant, awesome friend. She gets me. We even finish off each others sentences. She now has a fab little family which includes gorgeous baby Kai. A cute little blonde boy with the longest eyelashes you've ever seen. He was a bit poorly the other week but still managed a wee smile.

4) Family. I've enjoyed a very good catch up and shopping trip with my cousin today. And i managed to only spend £9 so i was well chuffed. She was buying a dress for a wedding she's attending next week and a few other bits for work. We headed to Horton's bar in Glasgow for lunch. It was lovely in there. First time we'd both been. A bonus was that she's got a Gourmet Club card which meant we got 50% off the bill. Get in! £17 for both of ours, not bad at all. I'd go back there. It was nicely furnished with wooden floors and dark furniture. Big windows brought in streams of light from the dullish day. The toilets were downstairs and were so clean and lovely. Spacious too. Aways a good thing. The staff who served us were friendly and attentive bit not overly pushy or anything. Overall a nice place for a bit of lunch and a meet up with friends. It's just off Buchanan Street so not so out of the way either.

5) our new bathroom. This may seems bit of an odd one but we've had the same bathroom suite in for years and years. It was about time it was updated and on Monday it was. Now we have a nice new white site (the last one was coloured a little) and it may even make me start to take long luxurious baths. I say might. You see I'm more of a shower person. I like to be in and out in ten minutes except when i'm washing my hair, then I'm at least half an hour. So yeah, the new bath, the new tiny toilet with the one quick flush system and the deep sink. New charcoal grey floor tiles will complete the look once they are laid. Can't wait.

6) Levi jeans. Specifically Levi's Curve ID jeans. I bought two pairs of these jeans back in October last year. There was a sale on. I hadn't had a pair of Levi's since my old battered 501's circa 2001 that now are paint splattered but are very dear to me. With my genetic make up from my mum's side (big butt) i do find it difficult to get jeans or trousers to fit my shape and i'd read a lot about how these Curve ID jeans were meant to suit different shapes. I went into the shop and was measured to see which version i'd need. There's slight curve, demi curve and bold curve. I was sure i'd be a bold curve but the nice assistant said that she thought i was a demi curve. Result! not as big a butt as i'd feared. I tried them on and whilst it was a bit tight getting them on i got them fastened and they pulled my butt in, miraculously. She gave me a 28" waist. Inside i was dancing. This is a size 10 pair of Levi's. Small victories, big win. I hadn't been in size 10 Levi's for years. Anyhow, back to today. I've not been at as many spin classes as i'd like and i've eaten more packets of Haribo jellies than i'd ideally like so it was with great delight that i can still fit into my size 10 demi curve Levi jeans. Woohoo. A bit tight to get on straight after a wash but once on they really do feel like they mould to your shape. Well they feel like that on me anyway.

7) This new device i'm writing this very blog on is a revelation. Although i won't say too much as it's going back. There's a little black thing inside the screen. I can only describe it as a tear like line. Not sure if it's missing pixels or something. It's a real inconvenience but a new machine is on it's way and this one will be returned. Quite an easy process to be honest so can't complain too much. I love it already though. Just saying...

Ah i think that's enough just now. I'm going to have to go and concentrate on the tennis. Andy Murray is currently on centre court in a game that could go either way. I need to send him some good vibes. We all do... C'mon Andy!!

Five things #22

Monday, 4 June 2012

..on a Monday, I know, I know. Late again...

1) observing Twitter from afar. When you're feeling a bit meh, Twitter can be a little overwhelming so last week I decided to take a time out. With a big T. It was refreshing. It was also interesting to dip in and out and catch up on the goings on. Because, you know, you never like to feel out of the loop do you. It's a real eye opener. There's the usual tomfoolery from spoof accounts, the innuendo loaded tweets from one party to another pretending to be all innocent, the down right cheeky, the laugh out loud really belly achingly good responses, the news stuff and many many more. I like it. So why did I feel the need for a time out? well, there comes a point where the bullshit and constant moany tweets gets too much and rather than hit reply to all the draft tweets I create I just stepped away from the edge. Simple. It worked. Word up though quit the moaning will you. It doesn't become you.

2) I read two books last week. TWO WHOLE BOOKS. Unheard of by me. Couldn't put them down.

3) Three films in one week. Movie fest. They were varying degrees of ridiculousity but all very good and worth a watch. What to expect when you're expecting was a movie of people on the verge of parenthood. There was Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz looking all buff and toned and muscular arms to rival that of Madonna! Wowsers, arm envy. It was a laugh and a little bit sad at the end, sad in a good way though. It was pretty funny at parts too. Sure the acting wasn't that intense but hey it was a Tuesday night and worth a look. Oh! BONUS ALERT. The hot guy from Love Actually is in it too! you know the one ladies. He's just about to seduce Laura Linney's character (to the tune of Norah Jones) when her brother calls. Yes, him!
Next up was Snow White and The Huntsman and Prometheus. More on those in the next post.

4) Whilst at the cinema I finally saw the new Batman trailer. Oh my god! When Bane came on the scene it sent tingles right through me. Cannot wait for this to come out.

5) Meeting a friend you've not seen for a while. Always nice, isn't it.

Five things on a Friday #21

Tuesday, 29 May 2012

...on a Tuesday. Late. Again...

1) the weather. Lovely, hot, stuffy sunshine. Clear blue skies. No clouds. It's turned today though (Tuesday, not Friday). The weekend was ace though.

2) Excitement at the thought of a Starbucks Frappuccino. Utter, utter disappointment when i actually got one. A caramel and cream one. It was more like a milke slushy with whipped cream and the faintest little sliver of caramel sauce you could imagine on top. Half of it went in the bin. I should've maybe gone for the strawberries and cream one. I'll know next time.

3) I read a whole book in two days. TWO DAYS! Totally unthinkable. I was enthralled, whisked up in the story, taken to another place in those two days. It left me wanting more. So I was ecstatic when i discovered it was part of a trology. I almost exploded with delight. And of course hit the Buy Now button on the iTunes bookstore. Oh, yes, i read it on the iPad/iPhone. My first proper go at reading a book on there. Inneresting... So I'm now over 200 pages into book two of three and yes, i am once again enveloped in this story so much. It is amazing.

4) Friday night spin class. It was hot. It was perfect. It only had 10 of us there. It was much needed. I gave it hell. It set me up for my weekend nicely. I sweated. Lots. I showered afterwards and i had a lovely meal too. Perfect.

5) And i lost 4 pounds too. Wahey!

Five things on a Friday #20

Number twenty. So that means we've been doing this for twenty weeks? Cool. I say we, in that way I hope you're joining in on this!

1) a video of Arthur Boorman, a war veteran in America who wears a back brace and legs callipers. Told he'd never walk properly again. Never give up were his thoughts. The rest.... Well you'll have to watch this video.

2) I finally saw The Avengers!! I really enjoyed it. If I had one minor criticism it would be that the fight scene in the middle was about ten. Invites too long, but other than that I loved it. All the characters in one movie. Ace. Robert Downey Jr always steals the scenes he's in doesn't he. He has that x factor. I loved Scarlett Johanson in it too. In fact no, they were all good. Really good. You have to go see it if you haven't already.

3) Prometheus. I saw the trailer again and for someone who has never been into Alien films, this is really exciting me. I can't wait to see. I tweeted that I hadn't seen Guy Pearce (a love of mine since his days as Mike in a Neighbours) in a trailer yet. A few people tweeted me back to say check out The TED video. I YouTube'd it on my return home and WOWSERS, it's such a great idea. No spoilers here but do go and check it out! Rally really good.

4) as I type this I'm watching the results of the American Idol final. I hope Phillip Phillips wins! You may remember him from a few Friday Five posts ago. I want to say how much i like Jennifer Lopez on this show too. She seems really down to earth. And of course she's stunning too.

5) my nephews Ryan and Connor. They really do bring joy to my life. A joy I couldn't possible find elsewhere. I stopped in on my way home from spin class to be told Ryan has chicken pox. I've never had it! Connors face was Brit red too, but that was due to him running riot, chatting the hind legs off a donkey and generally being hyper. He'll calm down soon...I hope. If only you could all meet them. I know they'd bring you joy too. The joy that only two cute little ginger brothers can bring. Awesome little people.

Five Things on a Friday #18

Friday, 4 May 2012

Hooray! I'm actually doing this post on a Friday. Yippee!!
Now, here goes...
1) The lovely weather this week. Sorry people South of the border but we've bnot had heavy rain for a while and as a bonus we've had sunshine and quite warm temperatures. Chilly today though. Last night I was even so warm i walked about the city centre with no jacket on. Wowsers.
2) This video that appeared on one of the blogs i read very day (or at least every time the author posts). it's pretty good. Have a watch and also, hop on over to Life as an Artispreneur blog. I just love it.

3)I have recently discovered another Scandinavian thriller series on BBC4. The Bridge. Set in Copenhagen and Sweden, across the bridge, there's been a murdurrrr. But why...find out when you watch it. I just love all of these thrillers. Much better than some of the dross that comes from our very own back yard. Well, not Spooks. I loved Spooks.

4) Bejewelled. The only game I play religiously on my iPhone. I've played a never ending game ever since I had my 3GS phone but had to start another one. I'm currently on 7.5 million points in the zen game. WOWSERS. I've never gotten into Angry Birds. I just don't understand and can't play it, so bejewelled suits me fine. Along with Words With Friends. Three games going at the moment. Hardly ever win. Boo. My vocabulary can't be any good! Yikes.

5) four spin classes this week. Getting into my stride again after a lil and skipping some Monday night ones. I'll be there from now on though. You betcha!

Five things on a Friday #17

Thursday, 3 May 2012

I know. It's Thursday already but I struggled to find five things last week. But he goes...

1) I had a lovely catch up and dinner with a fabulous friend I met through Twitter. @missakis she's one of the most honest, caring and funny people I know. Originally from Hungary, she now lives in London but visits Glasgow or Edinburgh regularly with work. We met I Glasgow last Thursday and had a nice meal and good old chit chat at Paperino's. The food was nice the place was nice too and what a bonus we got a 2 for 1 deal too. Result. Can't wait til our next catch up.

2) a great blog I found about two months ago. Thelifeofasingleman.blogspot.co.uk It's the tale of a thirty something divorced man and his dates since his marriage break up/divorce. It's funny and honest and the writer seems to have a knack for cliff hanger endings with each post. Go and read it from the start if you can.

3) Connor, my 2 year old nephew's sense of humour. Honestly he's the funniest little person I know. He's so quick witted and a fat little talker too. "you been at the gym Angie?" "no, it's closed" "aw I can go and open it for you" "can you?" "aye"..... Said with a dead straight face. Cute.

4) Home and Away. Yes the australian soap that now resides on channel 5. I think I must be one of the few people I know who still watches it. It's soooo good though.

5) cheap ass fake tan. Of course I use it, on occasion. Having decided that Fake Bake is far too expensive now I decided to give the cheapo stuff from Bodycare a go. £2.99 and it does the job just as good. And I'll tell you one thing. It actually makes my skin feel smoother and there's less of a honky smell from it the next day. Oh it's the St Moritz one. Obviously a St Tropez copy. Anyway, it's pretty good.

That's all folks!

Five Things on a Friday #16

Monday, 23 April 2012

yes, yes, on a Monday! I know, I'm late, again....read on.

1) This song. This version of this song. That is all.

Ok, so it's American Idol. But this guy has got it. His name: Phillip Phillips, what's not to love! I like that the music seems to flow through every part of his whole being. I love his raspy tone. I love his little shoulder shakes and that he reminds me of Chris Martin. I like this a lot. Oh and the girl is pretty decent too. I'd kinda missed this song when it was big and at number one in some chart for ages. But on hearing it lots lately I decided to hunt it down and found this version. I realised I hadn't really listened to all of the words and when i did I found they resonated. So, this has been on constant playback.

2) I saw Salmon Fishing in the Yemen yesterday. Yes, yes, nice little movie. Ewan McGregor's character is a bit weird, but nice all the same. I spent half the film wondering if his character was meant to act like he had asberger's or was this their way of portraying a backward thinking scientist from Scotland. hhmmmm. anyway that's not what number 2 is about. It's all about ZAC EFRON. Oh Yes! I know he's a baby but my goodness have you seen the trailer for The Lucky One. He appears to have aged (a little bit) and grown into a bona fide hottie. Check, it, out!....

3) Will.I.Am... I have to admit i thought Will.I.Am was the least person I'd like off of the Black Eyed Peas. The only thing i remember him for is on XFactor miming badly with auto-tune-a-plenty. But, cue The voice (on BBC1). It's really good and a much better version of a reality TV show. Then i heard about the coaches (they're not judges on the Beeb you see). Jessie J, Sir Tim Jones, Danny Whathisface off of The Script and William. I wasn't too eager but then i saw the first show and when they all sung I gotta feeling on the first night i was hooked. They all work well together and I actually like them all on this show. But Will.I.Am is excellent. Really knows what he's talking about and is usually right when going with his gut instinct. His little facial features and cool personality have really changed my opinion of him. I want to be his pal! I think a lot of people are surprised by how much of a nice guy he seems. I say seems because you never can really tell from a TV screen can you. Also, he seems pretty tiny. Can anyone clarify this? Fanks.

4) Light nights. The street lights aren't coming on now until about 8.50pm. We timed it. I love the light nights. I love the sunsets on a day when it's been showering with rain one minute and bright sunshine the next. You get lovely cloud formations and we all know i live a nice cloud formations. Here's one I took five minutes ago (9.10pm).
Sun has set

5) my mum and dad. I may not have a close circle of friends but these two share everything with me. I'm so lucky to have such a great set of parents. Sometimes i wish they'd give out more hugs, some hugs. Hugging is not big in this house you see but you know when you just know... You know that hands down, life or death they'd be there, fighting my corner. We don't say the love word that often either. Truth be told i can;t remember the last time i heard it but, like i said, you just know. Don't you...

Five things on a Friday #14

Sunday, 8 April 2012

Again, not a Friday but so what. As long as I'm doing this it's fine, right?

1) I got a new handbag. A navy blue leather mini shopper bag from Zara. I did order the larger tan brown leather one but honestly it was gigantic. Now I carry a load of rubbish in my bag, along with much needed stuff, but even I couldn't have filled it. Plus it would be super heavy to carry and not good for the body dynamics, or something. So I settled for the mini navy one. navy isn't a colour I'd normally go for but I've seen another blogger, Laura over at Buy Now Blog Later with a gorgeous little navy Celine bag (much too expensive for me) and she matches it quite well with different outfits. Not sure I'll be able to carry it off though. I make return it for a refund.

2) Easter weekend. It's a long weekend plus one for me. Not back to work til Wednesday. Gotta be a good thing.

3) Team GB cyclists! Good medal hauling at the World Track Cycling championships in Australia. How inspiring are they. I for one cannot wait until the Olympics begin. Let's all wish them well.

4) finding out that despite the glossy veneer that some people project on various social media platforms, their lives are just like yours and mine. The only thing they're better at than me is hiding what's going on. Just like the title of this here little blog.. "we've all got our Everest to climb". Bear that in mind.

5) not visited the cinema in over a week but it gave me that chance to watch DVDs I have in my stash. In particular I seem to have developed a new crush on Ashton Kutcher. Don't worry, it's not at the unhealthy stage just yet. But boy he is nice it look at.

Five things on a Friday #12 and #13

Friday, 30 March 2012

Ok i missed last week's Five Things post. Mostly because I had a flu thing all last week and so nothing much really happened. So i'll throw in a few extra wee snippets this week.

1) the weather! Yes, it's March but it's been like a mini summer. Mostly that means there have been long sunshiney days (of which i haven't seen much working indoors and all) as well as gorgeous sunsets and not to mention great views of the moon, venus and jupiter in close proximity. Sunday and Monday produced great clear skies and views. Even managed to see the red planet Mars. Nice.
Untitled
Top Venus, middle Moon, bottom Jupiter

2) talking of planets. I read a tweet from Charlie Todd mentioning that the planets were in alignment and that they (over in USA) would be able to see it around 4-5pm EST (9pm here). So I tweeted him a picture of what I could see that minuted and he Favourited it! He favourited MY tweet. Well cool. Charlie Todd in case you didn't know is part of the founder of Improv Everywhere. And in case you don't know who they are well they're responsible for the no pants day on the New York Subway. It takes place in January each year. Obviously pants in America are trousers so it's people on the subway in just their boxer shorts or pants (as we call them).

3) Charlie also gave a great Ted talk that you can view here...

4) last week I went to Ryan's primary school as they were having an open night. By the way, it's also my old primary school and my mum's and most of my family's. Anyway, they were having this open night to try to raise much needed funds for the basics. When I went in it hadn't changed and yet it felt different. The corridors felt much smaller and narrower. The main sports hall/dinner hall also seemed much tinier now that i'm older. In the main hall was a little art gallery of paintings done by each class. Primary 1 (Ryan's class) were hand prints on canvas in various colours. You could buy them for £5. My sister duly did. Very cool. We headed down to the P1 classroom so Ryan could show us where he spends most of his day. It was filled with pictures on the wall they'd drawn, there were balloons with each month written on them and below were a list of names and dates of each of their birthdays. In the back left hand corner was one computer, i'd say a good few years old. One computer for the whole class of about 20 kids. Back right hand side was the house where they can play. Front right was the painting table. Paint pots, paper etc. Nice But also on the table that night were old register books from when the school opened to the recent past. I managed to find my name in there, along with my old class mates. We found my mum and my cousins too. It was good remembering all this stuff. We were allowed to have a look at Ryan's tray too. Inside was a large white folder with his picture on the front. This was where the teacher recorded his progress and stored all his drawings and stuff. The reports were good. It suggested he felt like he always has to answer every question the teacher asks. He got a bit upset if it was wrong. But he now knows that it's ok to be wrong sometimes and she gives him more thinking time. His reading and writing are coming along a treat (we were worried a little while back) and he's very good at sums. In fact when he goes home from our house every night first thing he does is get out his book (homework) and reads or does his sums. I came away feeling good about his progress but i also felt a little bit sad about the state of the school. It's a small school with only about 100 kids. It's close to my heart and perhaps i need to think of ways I can help it get more funds... Maybe that could be my next purpose?..

5) work has been frankly shit the past few weeks. Not that actual work. I love my job and what i do but the atmosphere is pretty low due to various things. Hopefully it'll pick up again soon because it's actually a good place to work. If only the..... nah i won't say any more. But, however, I decided to give spin class a miss again on Monday and went to see Contraband at the cinema. I seem to say this all the time but i quite liked it. Mark Wahlberg is his usual self but is really quite good. And i liked Giovanni Ribisi. He's pretty intense when acting don't you think? I'd give is 3/5 on the Ange movie scale. Not an official scale, just mine.

6) if you've been reading here for a while you'll know one of my all time favourite (if not THE favourite) blogs to read is Pacing The Panic Room by Ryan Marshall and his lovely family. I've been an avid reader for about 3 years now and I've watched as his family grows and takes turns and never fails to amaze with the love the shines through in his wonderful words and pictures. Anyways Ryan was on Twitter but kinda stopped tweeting but thankfully did take up Instagram in a huge way. Both he and his wife Cole's pictures are really great. Recently Ryan started a series on Instagram called #LifewithSMS It's about their little boy LB suffers from SMS. The pictures are so great and Ryan gives an explanation about what's happening to LB in the picture. In this post Ryan gives a fuller explanation in his post An Instagram Series: Life with SMS I urge you to head over and have a read. I did not know what SMS was until I read it on his blog a while back. If nothing else you'll see that LB is a gorgeous little boy and Ryan's pictures capture moments of time that for me give a little insight on how their days are spent coping with a kid with SMS. I say coping onlt because i'm not sure what else to say because from the outside looking in they appear to cope really well and never seem to complain. The pictures are always filled with meaning and there's laughing and obvious love and brilliant little moments. There's also cool posts on jobs, Tessa Tangerine (their smiley little girl), and Ryan's own thoughts about growing a family together with Cole. I love it. Enough of me rambling. Go over and visit. You won't regret it.

7) Thornton's strawberry fondant pigs. 'nuff said. I cannot get enough of these sweets. I am a huge chocaholic and Thornton's Moments are a fave at Christmas time, especially the strawberry sweets. But then *cue angelic lah lah lahing* i stumbled upon the kids sweet section. You know the one with the little dancing bear lollipops, the mini fudge pieces and then..... the strawberry fondants pigs! As soon as i read it my mind whirred into action and thought could this be the same strawberry from the Moments box?! YES IT COULD. It's all I can do to get into own of a weekend and purchase my 5 for £3. They're sooooo tasty. I'll be a piggy too if i don't stop eating them though! oink.

8) I bought a nice cute little summer outfit from Zara last week. I say summer but it's actually black shorts and two very smart drop hem t-shirts, one black one white. Classic shades. I cannot wait to wear them *crosses fingers and prays for good weather this year*.

And that my friends is all we've got time for just now.

Five things on a Friday #11

Monday, 19 March 2012

...On a Monday!

1. Hair. if you know me you'll know how much I have a sense of dread every time I have to go to a hairdresser. It's because I've had so many disasters with either cut or colour. You see I feel that most hairdressers don't know how to cut curly hair properly. And when I ask for mid blonde highlights I really don't want to end up with bright orange streaks. I did get my hair cut and coloured at Jones and Payne when I visited London last year. I highly recommend them if you are near to them. That was April. So I plucked up the courage and did a bit of research on hairdressers in September and chose a salon that came with a high end price list to go long with it's high praise reviews. Granted the cut was fine but she totally didn't do the colour I wanted. I asked for my own natural colour on top with sort of ombre/dip dyed lighter ends. I got the lighter ends but what I ended up on top was a mahogany shade akin to Cheryl Cole in her reddish X Factor heyday. Totally too dark for me and actually it put me on a downer until it had grown out a bit. Anyway...I've ummed and aahed for ages and decided I'd stay closer to home and tried one salon in town that I've always avoided. However, when I went to book the appointment I was seen by the hairdresser who'd be doing my hair. She was a lovely girl who seemed to understand exactly what I wanted. Last Saturday was D-day and it has turned out fine. I wouldn't say I'm blown over by it. The cut is great, I only want a tiny bit snipped off the ends. And the colour is cool but I could do with a few more lighter ends. But at least I'm no longer really dark. It's actually nice and beachy for the summer coming in. Woo. Oh and all credit to her for blow drying it big and curly with only a round barrelled brush. It was really lovely then.

2. Got a lovely little spray tan. It's amazing that a tan (albeit a fake one) can make your outlook a bit more sunnier. Even if only for a few days. It's not every week I indulge in this form of beauty therapy but every once in a while, you know, it's nice to feel good. I'm probably a psychologists dream client talking that nonsense.

3. I had the house to myself for a few hours on a week night. It was lush. I made dinner watched tv on the big telly. My little 17" tv is great and all but sometimes it's good to watch things on the big screen. Simple things eh.

4. I discovered this article, via Ste Doyle on Facebook, about introverts. It's called Why the world needs Introverts and it's from The Guardian. As an introvert myself I was delighted with the idea that we aren't  weirdo's with nothing much to say and that we in fact complement extroverts. So stop putting us down, okay. Have a read though. It's pretty good.

5. ill Manors by Plan B. Brilliant! A look at last summers London Riots and what has gone wrong in a society where young people feel detached and alone. Not condoning them by any means but trying to give a view as to the whys and what can be done to ...help (for want of a better word). Really interesting too is his interview where he explains a bit about the song. Here....Enjoy.

5 Things on a Friday #10

Sunday, 11 March 2012

Ok ok I'm again a little bit late with this post. It is Sunday after all. But here goes.

1) my cake baking skills came into their own last week. I baked two batches of cupcakes and decorated them. Then I quickly rustled up some of my famous mars bar ay bake cakes. Tasty, tasty, very very tasty, they're very tasty!

2) Linda came back to work after he maternity leave. Just for two days a week but the place is so much brighter with her around. We can go back to our laughs and sayings for the book we'll eventually write. It'll be called. Shit Administrators Say... ;)

3) had another two cheeky days off. They're not really cheeky. I do actually deserve (and need) them. I w meant to only have Friday off but I took Thursday off too. It was my birthday on Tuesday and well, it didn't go to plan so I took time out.

4) I got to spend time with Connor on his own without Ryan. He's funny and charming and has a killer wit for a two year old.

5) I saw This Mean War this week. I like a rom com, I'm a girl after all. It actually was pretty funny at parts and was a surprise. Tom Hardy is so lovely, even with his wonky teeth (all part of his charm). I wonder if this will be a film he will regret making. Maybe not but with his roles being more of a serious nature I was pleasantly surprised at his comedy value. Did I also mention how hot he is? He is. It was a good rom com with a bit of action, not real action but some. Reece Witherspoon is her usual smily, blonde, beautiful self. Does she ever look bad? I don't think do. Worth a watch.

5 Things on a Friday #9

Friday, 2 March 2012

1. It actually felt like Spring this week for the first time. I'm soaking it in. Snow is predicted next few weeks. Boo.

2. Ryan learned to type on the iPad. For a five year old this is pretty cool, considering the iPad keyboard is all in capitals it can be hard for him to recognise the letters as he's learned the shape of them now. Actually, I just looked down (I'm typing this on the laptop) and the characters on this keyboard are also in capitals. I hadn't really thought about that until now. Here's an example. If you ask him about the letter A, he'll draw a circle with a line down, a lower case, but on the keyboard it's obviously a different shape. Like I say i'd never really given this a thought but imagine as a kid seeing different letters from the ones you are learning? He'll be quick to learn all the letters both lower and upper case soon enough at school but he's pretty savvy as a five year old so i'm sure he'll pick it up on the iPad soon enough too. As long a she knows how to type Fireman Sam into YouTube he's happy.

3. I had a little trip to Edinburgh last weekend and got my fix of yummy beef quesidilla from Illegal Jacks. Yum.

4. I treated myself to lots of new bits n bobs including some gorgeous Laure Mercier coral nail polish. Jelly like and so great for spring/summer.

5. I found more great blogs to read. Love it when that happens by chance.

I know, a bit of a lame list but to be honest things are quiet around these parts lately.
